Product Introduction

Precision instrumentation engineered for seismic proof glycerin filled manometer applications

The Seismic Proof Glycerin Filled Manometer is engineered for installations where the ground itself moves: fire-protection and sprinkler systems in earthquake-prone regions, nuclear and power plant auxiliary systems, mining and tunneling equipment, and heavy rail or crane structures. In these environments the instrument must survive short, violent acceleration events and keep giving a meaningful reading immediately afterwards, not merely stay attached to the pipe.

The movement is mounted on a reinforced frame with a stiffened Bourdon tube support, and the pointer is protected by a buffer stop that prevents the needle from whipping past zero or striking the dial glass during a shock. Glycerin fill adds viscous damping that absorbs the energy of the event and cushions the gear train, so pivots and teeth are not hammered by sudden acceleration. The fill also prevents the pointer from bouncing wildly during ongoing low-frequency shaking.

Assembly and shock qualification take place in our 100,000-level clean workshop and adjoining test area, where sample units are subjected to drop and impact tests, and reference readings are checked before and after each event to confirm the zero and span did not shift. Test data and fill batches are stored in our Advanced MES digital tracking system against each serial number to support seismic qualification files and project handover documents.

Mounting details matter as much as the gauge: a rigid stainless steel case, a reinforced mounting flange or bracket, and a flexible or braided connection are offered so the gauge is not cantilevered from a stiff pipe that could transmit bending loads into the instrument during a seismic event. These options let engineers integrate the manometer into project-specific seismic support designs.

Zero Shift Verification
  • Shock-Reinforced Movement Frame — Stiffened Bourdon support and gear mounting resist violent acceleration during ground motion or impact
  • Pointer Buffer Stop — Prevents the needle from whipping past zero or striking the window during a shock event
  • Glycerin Energy Absorption — Viscous fill cushions gears and pivots against sudden acceleration and continuing tremor
  • Post-Event Verification Testing — Reference readings are compared before and after shock tests to confirm zero and span stay in tolerance
  • Seismic Mounting Options — Reinforced flange, bracket, and flexible connection reduce load transferred from pipework
  • MES Traced Production — Serial-linked quality data from raw material to shipment for full after-sale traceability

Technical Highlights & QC

Every unit validated for zero-defect performance

  • Drop and Impact Program: Sample gauges are dropped and impacted from controlled heights to simulate severe shock and inspected for damage.
  • Before/After Zero and Span Check: Each sample is compared to a reference before and after shock to confirm no shift beyond tolerance.
  • Pointer Stop Function Test: Buffer stops are checked to confirm the needle is held clear of the window and dial under sudden acceleration.
  • Vibration Sweep: Units are swept across low-frequency vibration ranges typical of seismic and machinery events.
  • Glycerin Fill Integrity: Filled cases are inspected under shaking to confirm no leakage or air ingress.
  • MES Serial Tracking: Shock test results, fill batch, and calibration data are stored digitally against each unit's serial number.

Environment & Media Compatibility

Engineered for demanding operating environments

  • Seismic Ground Motion: Reinforced construction is intended to stay legible after strong short-duration acceleration events.
  • Blast Vibration: Mining and demolition-area installations benefit from the reinforced movement and damped needle.
  • Structural Sway: Tall-building risers and platforms that sway benefit from flexible mounting and damping.
  • Heavy Machinery Impact: Repeated mechanical shock from cranes, crushers, and presses is absorbed by the reinforced frame.
  • Wave Slamming and Vessel Motion: Fill and stops protect the gauge against constant motion on marine installations.
  • Temperature Cycling: Glycerin and stainless case maintain calibration across normal outdoor seasonal swings.

Pro Tips for Longevity

Installation & maintenance best practices

  • Isolate from Pipe Bending Loads: Use a flexible or braided connection so seismic pipe movement does not bend the gauge stem.
  • Mount to a Rigid Structure: Fix the flange or bracket to structural members rather than thin sheet or unsupported pipe.
  • Verify After Any Event: Following a real shock event, compare the gauge to a reference before assuming it is accurate.
  • Use a Snubber on Pulsating Lines: Combine the gauge with a snubber where pump pulsation is also present.
  • Keep Vent Plug Correctly Set: Confirm the vent is open after installation so the case does not pressurize.
  • Document Project Locations: Record each gauge serial number against its location for seismic qualification files.

Payment & Logistics

Reliable global supply chain from factory to your site

  • Flexible Payment Terms: We support T/T (30% deposit, balance before shipment), L/C at sight for large orders, and secure B2B trade assurance platforms for new customers.
  • Global Freight Options: Sea freight from Ningbo or Shanghai for bulk orders; DHL, FedEx, or UPS air express for urgent sample and small-batch shipments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before specifying or ordering

What does seismic proof mean for a pressure gauge?
It means the instrument is built and tested to stay intact and legible after strong ground motion or shock, rather than merely resisting steady vibration.
How is it different from an anti-vibration gauge?
Anti-vibration gauges damp continuous machine vibration, while seismic gauges are reinforced to survive short, violent acceleration events.
Does glycerin fill alone make it shock resistant?
No, glycerin helps damping, but shock resistance also needs the reinforced frame and pointer stop.
Can it be used on fire sprinkler systems?
Yes, it is suited to fire-protection risers where seismic design and readability after an event are required.
Is a flexible connection necessary?
It is strongly recommended so pipe movement does not transmit bending loads into the gauge stem.
Do you provide a shock test report?
Yes, a summary test report is available as part of the project documentation package.
What ranges are available?
Standard ranges cover 0-10 Bar up to 0-400 Bar, with custom ranges on request.
Can I mount it on a panel?
Yes, a reinforced rear clamp panel option is available.
How often should it be verified?
After any significant shock event and at least annually for safety-critical systems.
Is it suitable for offshore use?
Yes, with 316L wetted parts and stainless case it suits many offshore and marine installations.
