Product Introduction

Bridging distance and precision in pressure measurement

The Remote Reading Capillary Manometer solves one of the most persistent challenges in industrial instrumentation: how to read a pressure gauge when the measurement point is physically inaccessible, dangerously hot, or subjected to intense vibration. By connecting the process port to the display head via a precision-engineered copper or stainless steel capillary tube, the gauge dial can be positioned up to 5 meters away from the actual measurement point, allowing operators to monitor pressure in complete safety and comfort.

The capillary tube—typically ranging from 0.5 m to 5 m in standard configurations—acts as a mechanical signal transmission line. Filled with a temperature-stable hydraulic oil or glycerin compound, it faithfully transfers pressure impulses from the process connection to the Bourdon tube movement inside the display head without any electronic signal conversion, battery dependency, or wireless interference. This purely mechanical design means zero signal latency and absolute immunity to electromagnetic interference—a critical advantage in environments with heavy electrical equipment.

Our 100,000-level clean workshop ensures that the capillary tube is filled under vacuum conditions with precisely measured and degassed fill fluid. Air bubbles inside the capillary system are the primary cause of nonlinearity and pointer hesitation in lesser products. Our degassing and vacuum-fill process eliminates this issue entirely, delivering a response curve that is linear and repeatable from the first reading to the millionth. Every unit is then verified under our Advanced MES digital tracking system, with calibration data logged against the unit's serial number for complete traceability.

The display head is completely sealed and can be specified in a panel-mount, surface-mount, or flush-mount configuration, giving system designers maximum flexibility. The stainless steel capillary is armored with a PVC or stainless steel braided outer sheath for physical protection in environments where mechanical damage is a risk. The result is a manometer system that is not only more readable and safer than a direct-mount gauge, but also more durable in the harshest operating environments found in boiler rooms, refineries, and heavy manufacturing plants.

Technical Highlights & QC

Every capillary system validated for zero-defect performance

  • Vacuum Fill Verification: All capillary assemblies are filled under controlled vacuum to eliminate air inclusions. Post-fill pressure cycling confirms complete bubble removal before the system is sealed.
  • Capillary Bend Cycle Test: Armored capillary tubes undergo 500 repeated bend cycles at minimum bend radius to confirm the armor and inner tube do not fatigue-crack or collapse under repeated flexing.
  • Linearity Sweep Test: Each unit is stepped through 10 pressure points from zero to full scale and back, verifying hysteresis remains within Class 1.6 specification throughout the full range.
  • Leak Integrity: Hydraulic pressure test at 1.5× rated pressure for a minimum of 30 minutes, followed by visual and helium-sniff inspection at all joints, ferrule connections, and the display head seal.
  • Temperature Compensation Check: Sample units from each production batch are tested at -20°C and +60°C to verify that thermal expansion of the fill fluid does not induce significant zero-point shift beyond specification.
  • MES Serial Tracking: Every unit's capillary length, fill fluid batch, calibration sweep data, and final inspection result are stored digitally against its unique serial number for full after-sale traceability.

Environment & Media Compatibility

Engineered for extreme and demanding industrial environments

  • High Process Temperature: With glycerin fill fluid, the capillary system reliably transmits pressure signals from process media up to +200°C while the display head remains at ambient temperature.
  • Vibration Immunity: The capillary tube acts as a natural mechanical low-pass filter, attenuating high-frequency pressure spikes and vibration before they reach the delicate Bourdon tube movement.
  • Corrosive Media: 316L stainless steel wetted parts (process fitting and capillary inner tube) resist attack from dilute acids, alkalis, saltwater, and many industrial solvents.
  • Outdoor & Damp Environments: IP65-rated display heads with sealed polycarbonate or tempered glass windows prevent condensation ingress in humid, outdoor, or wash-down environments.
  • Cryogenic-Adjacent Applications: Low-temperature glycerin fill formulations maintain fluid viscosity and transmission fidelity down to -40°C for cold-room and refrigeration plant installations.
  • Mechanical Damage Resistance: Stainless steel braided armor protects the capillary from crush damage, abrasion, and accidental impacts in busy plant environments.

Pro Tips for Longevity

Installation & maintenance best practices for capillary systems

  • Minimum Bend Radius: Never bend the capillary tube tighter than the specified minimum bend radius (typically 50mm for copper, 80mm for armored SS). Kinking permanently damages the inner tube and creates a leak point.
  • Avoid Capillary Tension: Route the capillary with gentle curves and secure it with soft clamps at regular intervals. Do not allow the capillary to hang under its own weight in long vertical runs—use support brackets.
  • Height Compensation: When the display head is positioned significantly higher or lower than the process connection, a hydrostatic head correction must be applied to the zero reading to account for the fill fluid column weight.
  • Process Isolation Valve: Always install a root valve between the process pipe and the capillary process fitting. This allows safe removal of the entire gauge assembly for inspection without system shutdown.
  • Protect from Sharp Edges: Where the capillary passes through metal bulkheads or cable trays, use protective grommets or conduit sleeves to prevent armor abrasion and eventual inner tube breach.
  • No Field Repair of Fill: If the capillary is breached and fill fluid is lost, the unit must be returned to factory or replaced. Field re-filling without vacuum equipment will introduce air bubbles and destroy linearity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before specifying or ordering a capillary manometer

How long can the capillary tube be?
Standard options are 0.5 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 3 m, and 5 m. Custom lengths up to 10 m are available on request. Note that longer capillaries increase the hydrostatic head correction needed and may slightly increase response lag time.
Does capillary length affect accuracy?
The capillary length itself does not affect accuracy within the rated range. However, the height difference between the process connection and the display head creates a hydrostatic offset that must be zeroed out during installation if significant.
Can the capillary be cut or extended in the field?
No. The capillary is a sealed, vacuum-filled system. Cutting or splicing it in the field will cause fill fluid loss and air ingress, destroying the measurement performance. Please specify the exact required length at the time of order.
What fill fluid is used inside the capillary?
Standard models use degassed glycerin. For food-processing or high-temperature applications, food-grade silicone oil or mineral oil fill fluids are available. Please specify the process temperature and any food-contact requirements when ordering.
How is the display head mounted?
The display head is available in panel-mount (hole-in-panel with front flange), surface-mount (back stud on wall or bracket), and flush-mount configurations. Mounting hardware and dimensional drawings are provided with every shipment.
Is the capillary process fitting interchangeable?
The process fitting is assembled and sealed at the factory as part of the filled system. Connection thread type (NPT, BSPT, DIN) must be specified at order time. Field swapping of the process fitting is not possible without breaking the sealed system.
Can this gauge measure vacuum or negative pressure?
Yes. Compound ranges (e.g., -1 Bar to +9 Bar) are available. The vacuum portion of the scale is measured using the same Bourdon tube principle in reverse. Please specify compound range requirements when ordering.
What certifications are available?
Standard certifications include ISO9001:2015, CE (for EU market compliance), and RoHS. ATEX-certified versions for hazardous area (Ex zone) installation are available on request for petrochemical and mining applications.
Is the armor sheath mandatory?
The PVC outer sheath is standard on all models. Stainless steel braided armor is recommended for applications where the capillary may be exposed to mechanical abrasion, foot traffic, or sharp metal edges. It can be specified at no significant cost premium.
What is the response time of the capillary system?
Response time is typically under 1 second for lengths up to 2 m and under 2–3 seconds for 5 m lengths, depending on fill fluid viscosity. For rapid transient pressure monitoring, a direct-mount gauge is more appropriate than a long capillary system.
